Problems
In order to succeed in today's ever changing market, leaders must forecast
the changes taking place in the world. Presently, deregulation that
passed in the United States back in August of 1999 has taken shape and
created changes in the ocean lines. Competition is stiff and carriers
are competing more than ever for leadership in market share to survive
the changes taking place. The problem is that service is lacking for
the consumer. Another issue to consider is the change from manuel to
automation of entry through email. Many brokers were not taking this
change seriously and now have had to make swift changes to comply. This
only hurts to customer because at this point the brokers have become
reactive to a situation not proactive.
Opportunities
Atlas has prepared for these changes with the information
that has been supplied by the Miami office, DRT International, that
has complied with deregulation measures by attending special conferences
on the changes that have taken place and will take place. In Jamaica,
Atlas has made sure from day 1 to comply with the new policies that
would eventually be inplemented in place on electronic transfer of data
on entries. Because of the proactive effort that Atlas Customs Brokers
put out, they are the leading broker in complying with electronic email
and has worked hand in hand with programmers to work out the kinks in
the system. Knowledge and compliance with technology has made Atlas
Customs Brokers the leader in the Jamaican Market.
Risks: Customs house brokers that are not prepared Y2K compliant
and still working on becoming customs' compliant.
